EXPANDING the popular SmartIP series of Pacom NVR’s, the new SD and PD series NVR’s also sees the introduction of DirectIP protocol.
The DirectIP is a protocol designed to provide customers with a HD surveillance solution, which is easy to use, simple to install, and quick to configure through advanced plug-and-play capabilities.
The Pacom SmartIP-8/16SD and 16/32PD series are capable of recording a range of IP cameras including the EVOnet (gen3), Panasonic, Axis and ONVIF profile S third party cameras. They come with a built-in 8-channel PoE gigabit switch (see note below regarding the 16 and 32-channel NVR’s), real-time recording in 720p on all models and 1080p for the 8SD and 16PD models.
The SmartIP-8SD and 16SD come with 3TB HDD and have the capacity for 4 HDD’s in total. The SmartIP-16/32 PD NVR’s come with a 3TB HDD and have the capacity for 6 HDD’s in total.

Sony will release a swag of new cameras in the new year – not just new models but new technologies – including thermal cameras and panomorph units incorporating Immervision lenses. Global Sony improvements include new dome seals and cable glands.
RECENTLY I took a trip out to Sony chat about planned releases for 2014 and there’s plenty to look forward to as the company gets its entire range loaded with the Generation 6 (Gen 6) sensor and processing engine. That’s an interesting move in itself, notwithstanding the fact Sony has been expanding its range to meet high temperature and panoramic applications.

BriefCam’s Video Synopsis Forensics software tool, distributed locally by OPS, was one of the stand-out products at Security 2013.
BriefCam VS FOrensics is a solution that takes large video streams covering hours of events and compresses them into seconds. For security teams on large sites with hundreds of cameras, the process of mining through multiple video streams searching for reported events can be a full-time job. Once an event is found on one camera, other cameras must be searched. It’s a process that never ends.
Explaining the way VS Forensics presents its event stream is a little difficult with words but very easy with images. Essentially, BriefCam’s VS Forensics solution synthesises events from real time video streams, presenting them as compact, overlaid progressions of events, which each event tagged with a time.
SONY Electronics' Security Systems Division and Next Level Security Systems announced the launch of an affordable, scalable cloud-based video surveillance solution: IPELA Cloud Serviced by NextConnect Video in the U.S. market.
Combining Sony's IPELA ENGINE EX Series IP cameras with the NextConnect Video cloud service allows Sony and Next Level to deliver security solutions and technologies to a broader audience of customers.
Unlike other hosted or cloud solutions, the IPELA Cloud solution reduces substantial bandwidth costs by leveraging peer-to-peer technology from Next Level, which enables direct connectivity from the camera to the client instead of routing video through a host computer. Furthermore, it enables direct connectivity from the camera to the cloud and provides HD video to multiple clients.
