A joint offering from GE Security and Alarm.com, the cellular module can be used as a backup if telephone service is not available, or as a primary reporting device over digital cellular networks. “GE Security’s partnership with Alarm.com allows GE’s Simon 3 self contained wireless solution to integrate seamlessly with Alarm.com’s GSM Cellular Module, bolstering reliability, facilitating troubleshooting, and enabling end users and dealers to make changes remotely,” said Jim Paulson, GE Security’s general manager for commercial and residential solutions. “Dealers will no longer need to dispatch a truck to the customer site to re-program the panel, and end users will be able to remotely access and arm/disarm the system and adjust lighting and HVAC, all through an intuitive web interface.” Because the Simon Cellular Module is wireless, it is not vulnerable to phone line or Internet connection failures. Additionally, with its sophisticated, built-in power management algorithm, both the module and the Simon control panel can operate properly and reliably for over 24 hours during a persistent power outage. The Simon Cellular Module uses the robust and reliable GPRS protocol on the GSM network and is supported by more than 30 U.S. cellular network providers. Integration of the Cellular Module extends to the Simon keypad. It provides simple diagnostics on the panel, making module troubleshooting easy. Sensor names, groups, panel options and more can be configured, both remotely and wirelessly. Simon 3 is an economical security panel that offers up to 24 zones of burglary and fire protection and complies with SIA CP-01 False Alarms Standards. Simon 3 features a built-in touchpad and status speaker that provides voice messages for feedback. Installing the unit into any new or installed Simon 3 panel is made simple through the use of a modified rear housing that ships with the Cellular Module. The installer simply removes the standard chassis and replaces it with the cellular kit. The power cable and antenna are then attached and the Cellular Module is plugged directly in to the PCB. The Cellular Module reports to the central station using either SIA or Contact ID formats depending on dealer choice. LEDs indicate system status.
