Honeywell Launches DIY Security, Automation Solution on Indiegogo
HONEYWELL has launched its new DIY play, the Honeywell Smart Home Security System.
Honeywell is taking a jazzy small-tech approach by launching its solution on the crowdfunding site Indiegogo first – it won’t go mainstream until 2018. And between now and the end of 2018, the solution will take on a broad range of additional functionalities.
According to the company, the Honeywell Smart Home Security System is an all-in-one “awareness and home-integration system” the core of which is a camera base station with an integrated 1080p HD camera offering a wide-angle lens giving a 145-degree angle of view supported by facial recognition with push notifications. There’s also a microphone and speaker supporting Alexa Voice Service integration.
Along with the integrated camera in the main cylindrical hub, there are internal and external sensors and motion viewers – essentially compact cameras – that act as detection devices. The camera base station and connected devices are managed using a schedule, location-based geofencing, or customizable event and scene triggers.
Audio and video self-monitoring is available directly through the Honeywell Lyric app, and the Smart Home Security System also can send alerts inside the home with customizable lighting, sirens and video notifications through the app. The system will come with 24 hours of back-up cloud storage, which will be expanded to three days later this year.
“Right out of the box and enabled by Amazon Alexa, our system allows customers to keep an eye on what’s happening in and around their homes,” said Michael Flink, president, Honeywell Security and Fire. “As is the case with all of Honeywell’s Connected Home offerings, the system can be enabled by location-based geofencing, which means it knows when you are at home or away.”
Additional features Honeywell says will be added to the Honeywell Smart Home Security System during 2018 include facial recognition, audio analytics, smart alerts, Z-Wave control, Siri integration, extended cloud storage services, Amazon music services, motion viewer support and additional partner integrations. ♦
