Michael, Freja and Charlotte De Martino.

Michael De Martino of security distributor EOS Australia is struggling through the loss of wife Charlotte, who died after a catastrophic brain bleed due to the rupture of an aneurysm while 6 months pregnant with their third child.

According to De Martino, Charlotte was somehow able to call an ambulance after the aneurysm burst, an event which usually leads to immediate loss of consciousness. He says her action was the only reason baby Runa, currently stable in the Monash Clayton neonatal ICU after emergency delivery at 27 weeks, survived.

“After 2 weeks of fighting, it was determined Charlotte was showing no signs of brain activity and her life support was turned off on Saturday, March 20, while I held her,” De Martino said.

“Apart from losing the love of my life, the most difficult part is the near daily conversation I need to have with my oldest daughter, Freja, who is only 3, about how she will never get to see her mother again. She is a smart girl and does understand what has happened, but fails to understand the permanence of our loss. She still lives in hope that she will see mummy again.”

De Martino says EOS and friends in the security industry have been very supportive but with 3 little girls under the age of 4 he’s unable to return to work and surviving is an ongoing battle. De Martino’s family has set up a GoFundMe page here – anyone in the industry able to assist one of our own through very tough times is encouraged to dig deep.
